As the illustrator to the wildly popular title Dragons Eat Tacos, Salmieri’s aesthetic has already wormed its way into your kid’s subconscious. But with his authorial debut, Bear & Wolf, the Brooklyn-based Salmieri exposes a tender side as well. The tale of an unlikely friendship, a long walk through the snowy woods, and a sad goodbye, Bear & Wolf has all the makings of a modern classic. It’s the Amos & Boris for the modern age.
Retesting Policy. Helix may be unable to process you saliva sample on first attempt, which may be either due to an issue with the submitted sample or with our laboratory process. If this is the case, and if enough of your sample is left over, Helix will attempt to process your sample again at no charge. If they are still unable to process your sample, we will send you a second collection kit at no charge. However, if they are unable to process your sample because of your violation of these Terms or the Helix Terms of Service, a fee may apply to receive a second collection kit. You can use this second kit to send us a second sample. If your second sample cannot be processed, you may request an additional kit for a fee (at least $25) and submit a new sample in order for Helix to make another attempt at sequencing your DNA, or you may instead request a refund for your order. A refund will deduct a cancellation fee (at least $25) and shipping and handling fees. See the Helix Retesting Policy and the Helix Return Policy.
Written by Fatherly editor-at-large Joshua David Stein, Brick follows a young Brick as she searches for her place in the world. Inspired by the idea that “Great things begin with small bricks,” she visits castles and churches and walls and apartments around the world, searching for places she might fit in. It’s a fun book with a heap of great illustrations by Julia Rothman and it’s about much more than architecture and fitting in. Yeah, we sort of had to mention it because Joshua works for us. But, if he didn’t, we would’ve included it on this list anyway.
The best children’s books not only help young readers understand themselves and the world better, but make them giggle, think, worry, consider, and engage all their other feelings, too. These books also tug adult readers back towards childhood, reminding us of our youth and bigger things beyond our own lives. This is no easy trick, but it feels natural when a great book pulls it off with grace. And so far, there have been dozens of releases this year that do just that.
